Emergency First Aid at Work

First Aid Courses

Here at TH Training Solutions, we are passionate about first aid.

Every year in the UK, thousands of people die or are seriously injured in incidents. Many deaths could be prevented if first aid was given before emergency services arrive.

Understanding Emergency First Aid at Work Courses for the Workplace

Understanding emergency first aid at work and basic life support courses is important for the safety and well-being of employees in the workplace. These courses provide essential training for first aiders to handle injuries and illnesses that may occur on the job. They cover basic first aid techniques, such as CPR and wound care, and are suitable for businesses throughout the UK covering al the major cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and anywhere in between.

Emergency first aid courses are often incorporated into a work course program to ensure employees have the necessary skills to provide immediate assistance. They’re typically combined with health & safety and food safety courses to create a comprehensive training program for staff. This ensures that all employees have the required safety level knowledge and can help maintain a healthy and safe work environment.

By participating in an emergency first aid at work course, employees will gain the expertise needed to care for their fellow colleagues in an emergency situation. It’s important that workers remain updated on the latest emergency first aid techniques, as well as the practical skills taught in these courses. This, in turn, promotes a culture of safety and care within the workplace and ensures all first aiders are prepared to provide assistance when needed.

Key Topics Covered in the Emergency First Aid at Work Course for Working People

The emergency first aid at work course is designed to provide working people with the essential knowledge and skills required to become an effective first aider in their workplace. This course covers a number of key topics, including legal requirements, first aid equipment, and how to manage various medical emergencies.

One of the first topics covered is understanding the role of a first aider, including their legal responsibilities. First aiders must be able to respond to workplace emergencies quickly and efficiently. There will be a focus on first aid principles, such as assessing the scene, protecting oneself, and providing comfort to the injured person.

Participants will learn about the different types of first aid equipment that may be required in a workplace, including first aid kits, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and other essential items. Knowledge of how to use these pieces of equipment properly is crucial for a capable first aider.

Additionally, the course covers how to manage various medical emergencies that a first aider may encounter, including unconsciousness, heart attacks, strokes, choking, bleeding, burns, and fractures. This training will provide first aiders with the skills and confidence to deal with these emergencies in an effective manner.

Emergency first aid at work courses are an invaluable resource for working people who strive to be competent first aiders in their workplace. These training courses cover essential topics that equip individuals with the skills to confidently manage workplace medical emergencies.

Who Should Take the Emergency First Aid at Work Course and How it Benefits the Working Environment

Anyone can take the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course, but it’s specifically designed for people working in environments that require basic first aid skills. By attending EFAW courses, employees learn essential first aid techniques, which benefit the workplace by creating a safer and more prepared environment. The course covers key topics like dealing with unconscious casualties, administering CPR, and handling medical emergencies. It also trains people for proper assessment of various situations, ensuring swift and accurate responses during emergencies.

Training employees in EFAW raises awareness of potential hazards within the workplace, which in turn supports the development of a safety mindset. Regulations across various industries emphasise the importance of first aid training, and completing this one-day course awards the individual with a recognised Level 3 qualification. Having EFAW-trained staff also helps businesses meet health and safety regulations. Also, workers who’ve completed the course can become designated first aiders, a role that elevates their day-to-day responsibilities and skillset.

By learning essential first aid skills, employees foster a culture where everyone is vigilant about potential threats and can provide immediate assistance to colleagues in need. Face-to-face training ensures that attendees receive proper hands-on instruction to hone their new skills, ultimately leading to a safer and more competent working environment.

Employers’ Legal Duties:

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed. What is ‘adequate and appropriate’ will depend on the circumstances in the workplace. Employers should carry out an assessment of first aid needs to determine what to provide. The Regulations do not place a legal duty on employers to make first-aid provision for non-employees such as the public or children in schools. However, The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommends that non-employees are included in an assessment of first-aid needs and that provision is made for them.
